WarCry Dev Chat – Isengard and Radiance Details
During the downtime there was a Dev Chat hosted by WarCry with the full transcript posted a couple of places but I read it over at Mordor of Bust. Certainly some good Q&A but a couple things leaped off the page for me:
- With regard to the Isengard Expansion (Kate Paiz):
- isengard is tentatively slated for next year, and we’ll be approaching the zone in the timeline in which saruman has already denuded the area, and has created his orc factory. players will likely have access to some of the underground areas, but obviously with saruman in the big tower, access to the upper regions is likely to be challenging

- With regard to Radiance (Jalessa)
- We took Radiance outside, tied it up to some railroad tracks, and…well…I think you saw the end of this in Red Dead Redemption. Look for this in the future – we will be removing Radiance from LOTRO.
I really like the timing with Isengard, I was afraid we were going to get there when everything had died down 
 And of course, I’m VERY intrigued with where they’re going to take gear towards and how they’re going to move past Radiance.
Take a look for yourself, I’m sure we’ll all pull bits and pieces from various different items.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they gate it with deeds (much like they are doing for the helegrod raid, where you have to do the 3 12-man raid wings first which are tracked with a deed before unlocking the 24 man raid portion).
I think the great thing about that is they can esentially put a deed in there to make sure you hit up each instance and fight each boss before progressing which will breath life back into the instances that aren’t run much anymore like 16th hall and DD.

I’ve actually figured out what their new gating system is.
They no longer need to use radiance because they can now level gate with the Instance Join system. Bleh.
On top of that they can easily throw in a deed to kill all the bosses in zone relevant 6 and 3 mans to gate access to a raid and they’re pretty much set.
Of course this is just my theory.

I can see that, but I’m wondering if there’s something else they’re working on – but maybe things will be deed gated.
I actually didn’t have too much of a problem with the idea of radiance, I was just frustrated that it forced you to wear one set of armor. If they could’ve done something like a radiance trait, that would’ve been cool.

I really liked that idea, I heard someone discuss how it you could gain a radiance tier by completing quests/instances. Then you could equip the radiance for when you went into encounters that needed it.
I have only been to watcher a couple times, and have yet to set foot in DN. So I would rather just have the best stat sets. So far for most of my toons that has been moria, with the Head and Shoulders from DG.

I am really curious to see how things change with Isengaurd. I am looking to the Annuminas set for my LM those stat bonuses are nice, if only the gear wasn’t so hideous, at least I have cosmetics, won’t show my face in the moors though, looking like a royal purple fairy. I am sure once Isenguard comes out I will be looking for something new.
Hopefully whatever gating system they create is as fair as radiance. Its really not that hard to get. The biggest drawback you have stated is that it kinda forces one to use specific armor sets. Totally nerfing the Armourer Crafters, i should add. It would have been nice if a tailor could make crafted radiance gear, on par with the reforged 65 second ages.
I am kinda glad to see it go, it was not that bad of a system, just poorly implemented.

Yeah, I’m very curious in regards to how they are going to gate their future content, if they decide to gate it at all.
I’m actually kind of debating now if I want to go for any of the Annuminas or Helegrod gear at this point. For champs, it’s inferior to the VM set as far as stats and set bonus is concerned. The BG set bonus is better but the stats aren’t quite as good.
That statement quite possibly made the Moria gear the best in the game (again) for many classes.
I’m also sad that your new domain name is blocked at my office.
